DESCRIPTION:TEDxBrickell is the first TEDx event brought to Miami. The vene
rable TED conference has opened the door to intellectual and expansive dis
cussions on humanity\, science and economics to name a few.\n\nThrough the
TED “x” program\, the local license program from the main program ope
rator\, we are able to extend the challenging and compelling discussion co
nference to a local audience.\n\nThe TEDxBrickell event is just the beginn
ing of the process for Miami. The evolving nature of the downtown business
district\, expansion of the mid-town areas have led the City to a new era
in maturation.\n\nIt is our hope that bringing events such as TEDxBrickel
l to the City will bring together caring\, smart individuals willing to en
gage on difficult conversations that have the ability to help our communit
 y evolve into the future.\n\nTell us your interests…\n\nMarc Billings\nO
 perator of TedxBrickell\nmarc@digiport.com\n\nAbout TEDx\, x=independently
organize event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading\, TEDx is a program
of local\, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TE
D-like experience. At a TEDx event\, TEDTalks video and live speakers comb
ine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local\
 , self-organized events are branded TEDx\, where x=independently organized
TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx prog
ram\, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.*\n(*Subject to certai

DESCRIPTION:Rasmus Lerdorf is known for having gotten the PHP project off t
he ground in 1995. He is also a member of the Apache Server core developme
nt team and a member of the Apache Foundation board of directors\, and has
contributed to a number of other open source projects over the years. He
has also been an engineer at Yahoo! He was born in Greenland\, grew up in
Denmark and Canada and has a Systems Design engineering degree from the Un
iversity of Waterloo. Mr. Lerdorf is a frequent speaker on PHP and Open So
urce at conferences around the world.\n\nThere has been a lot of interest
in PHP performance lately spurred by Facebook's HipHop PHP announcement in
February. Most people don't know how fast their site is and will make uni
nformed architecture decisions or spend time optimizing the wrong things b
ased mostly on myths and innuendo. This talk will try to get you started d
own the path of a systematic approach to benchmarking\, profiling and opti
mizing your entire web site. If there is time and interest\, we'll have a
look at Web security as well. Most of the concepts covered are not PHP-spe
cific\, but I will of course be using PHP to illustrate concepts.\n\nFor d
